How Fast Can You Move Into Coliving in NYC? A Day-by-Day Guide

You needed a place two weeks ago. A traditional New York rental asks you to book viewings, gather piles of documents, pay application fees, wait for a credit check, hope you are not rejected, and then sign a long lease. That can take weeks, and you may be sleeping on a friend’s couch the whole time.

Coliving is built to be quicker. Here is what moving into a Roomrs room looks like, step by step.

Step by step: from picking a room to moving in

Step 1: Pick a room and your dates

Choose your lease length and move-in date, then click Apply. Rooms are listed 60 to 75 days before they open, and you can apply as soon as you see one you like.

Step 2: Apply online

Fill in the application and upload your documents. Have these ready: a photo ID or passport, and proof of income such as pay stubs, a letter of employment or a bank statement. Having them ready is the biggest time saver. A one-time service fee applies when you apply, and it is refunded if you are not approved. Moving from abroad? Step 3: Get your answer

Approval can be instant. It takes up to 48 hours and is usually done within a day. If something is missing, we contact you right away.

Step 4: Sign your lease

Once you are approved, we send your lease. You can usually sign within 48 hours.

Step 5: Make your first payment

You pay your first month’s rent and a security deposit equal to one month’s rent. After that, rent is due on the 1st of each month, and it is prorated if you move in later in the month.

Step 6: Get your move-in email

Once your lease is signed and the first payment is made, you get a move-in email with your access details. Most of our homes have keypads or smart locks, so there is no key pickup.

Step 7: Move in

Move-ins start at 3 PM on your date, or in the days after. Arriving late is fine, though daytime is easiest.
